DATA REPORT · 2027

Tampa Bay AC Repair Report 2027.
What 634 AC companies tell you, and what they don’t.

Every listing on AC Repair Scout is built by reading the company’s own website, writing down only what it states, and re-checking it each month. Put together, those 634 air conditioning companies across 26 Tampa Bay areas give a picture of the local AC repair market that nobody else publishes. Data as of Nov 7, 2026.

Finding 1

Most AC companies don’t post a single price.

Only 94 of 634 Tampa Bay AC companies (14.8%) state any price on their own website. Among those that do, the typical service call or diagnostic fee is $89.50, a tune-up $79 and a yearly maintenance plan $179.

Most AC companies don’t post a single price
Service call / diagnostic (36)$39–$129 · median $89.50
AC tune-up (25)$39.99–$275 · median $79
Maintenance plan, per year (12)$59.95–$498 · median $179
Maintenance plan, per month (4)$14.99–$23 · median $17.99

Method: We recorded a price only where the business states one on its own website, read each dollar figure by its label, skipped discounts, “value”, “regular” and after-hours or commercial prices, and report the median of each company’s lowest price per type. Download the numbers (CSV)

Finding 2

Nearly half don’t show a licence number.

349 of 634 companies (55%) print a Florida contractor licence number on their website, almost all of them an air conditioning (CAC) licence. The other 285 (45%) don’t, so homeowners have to ask for it before they can look it up.

Method: We read each business’s own website for a Florida licence number (CAC, CMC, CFC or EC followed by digits) and counted the licence classes shown; we did not look the numbers up in the state register for this count. Download the numbers (CSV)

Finding 3

Few mention the refrigerant certification.

Federal law requires anyone who handles refrigerant to hold EPA Section 608 certification, yet only 58 companies (9.1%) mention it on their website. 89 (14%) say their technicians are NATE certified and 338 (53.3%) say they are insured.

Method: We counted a credential only where the business’s own website states it; a company that doesn’t mention one may still hold it, and we don’t see certificates or policies. Download the numbers (CSV)

Finding 4

Most promise 24/7; one in eight lists 24-hour hours.

351 companies (55.4%) advertise 24/7 emergency AC repair. Of the 350 with posted opening hours, 70.6% are open on Saturday, 46.3% on Sunday, and 42 (12%) list round-the-clock hours every day.

Finding 5

Where the AC companies are.

Tampa has the most choice, with 110 AC companies; the thinnest choice of the 26 areas is in Tarpon Springs (7), Lutz (7), Dunedin (7). 372 of 634 companies (58.7%) publish no street address at all: they come to you from a base in the area.

Finding 9

No closures, but some “AC companies” aren’t.

In our first monthly re-check (2026-11-07) of 641 listed companies, 0 had closed and 1 new company qualified. 6 turned out to be lead-generation referral sites rather than AC companies, and were removed, as were 2 vehicle AC shops.

Method: Every listing’s website is re-fetched each month and checked for closure, referral-service wording and new openings, and looked up on Google Maps for closed flags; counts come from the dated ledger of that re-check. Download the numbers (CSV)
