How to check a Florida AC contractor's licence
A licence number takes a minute to check, and it is the one detail you can confirm yourself on an official register rather than take on trust.
Ask for the number
Ask the company for its Florida contractor licence number, and the name the licence is held under. Many companies print it on their website, trucks or quotes. Florida state-certified air conditioning and mechanical contractor numbers often start with CAC or CMC. Some contractors hold a registered licence instead, which is limited to certain local areas; the register shows which kind it is.
351 AC companies in our directory publish a licence number on their own site (as of November 6, 2026).
Look it up
- Go to the DBPR licence search on myfloridalicense.com.
- Search by licence number, or by the business or person’s name.
- Open the record and check the status and the expiry date.
What to compare
- Name. Does the business or qualifying contractor on the record match the company you are hiring?
- Type. Does the licence cover air conditioning or mechanical work?
- Status. Is it current and active?
The register may also show complaints or discipline. If anything is unclear, ask the company to explain it, or contact DBPR.
Permits and local rules
Installing or replacing a system usually needs a permit from your city or county. Ask whether the company pulls the permit and books the inspection, and check with your local building department if you are unsure what applies to your home.
If they won’t give a number
A company that can’t or won’t give you a licence number is a good reason to keep looking. Our trust check shows whether each company publishes one, and the profile links to where we found it. How to choose an AC repair company
This is general information, not legal, insurance or contracting advice. Every home and system is different: confirm details with the AC company, the licence register and, for equipment, the manufacturer’s guidance and warranty terms.
